The ABC's of Financial Fitness
Whoever stated "money can't buy happiness" was correct - it is true that money in and of itself cannot bring us happiness. What they failed to mention was how a lack of money can brig us much distress in our daily lives. Financial stress has a negative impact on our health and well-being when it creates feelings of uncertainty and worry. Take control of your financial present and future by following the ABC's of financial fitness.

Eldercare
There’s a sad irony in seeing the people who cared for and nurtured you, needing care and nurturing from you. If you’re caring for an elderly loved one, however, you can take comfort in knowing that you are in good company. In fact, a 2007 Statistics Canada report indicated that 2.7 million Canadians between the ages of 45 - 54 were taking care of someone 65 years of age or older.

Coping With Loss
Have you ever experienced loss? At some point in our lives, most people have to suffer this difficult but inevitable part of the human experience. And while most of us acknowledge the death of a loved one can be the most painful and significant type of loss, we need to recognize that much suffering and grief accompanies other losses such as the break-up of a marriage or relationship, the loss of physical independence, a miscarriage, job-loss or other life-changing events.

Are Drugs or Alcohol Affecting Someone You Love?
Living with someone who has a drug or alcohol problem can feel like a terrifying journey into the unknown. Not only is it hard to witness someone we love struggling and in pain, but we can feel frustrated and helpless in our ability to help them. We may also be concerned about our own well-being and that of our family. Finally, feeling like no one knows about the problem, and that it needs to be kept secret or 'hidden' further complicates matters. If there's comfort to be taken in any of this, it's that you are not alone.

What Happens Next???.....Living Through Divorce
Divorce is often an intense and stressful experience for families. It is a time when all family members struggle with a range of powerful emotions - sadness, anger, hurt, fear, loneliness, confusion and loss. Typically, adults are capable of verbalizing their feelings, while many children struggle with expressing themselves. As a parent, it is important that you seek out the emotional support you require so you in turn can provide stability and support for your children throughout this transitional period.

Parenting Your Teen
Remember when your children were young? You were the centre of their world. You always knew where they were and who they were with. You knew even the smallest details of their lives, sharing in their victories and defeats. Parenting teens is a completely new adventure.

Relationships...For Better and For Worse
The excitement of a romantic relationship in its initial stages is one of life's happiest moments. When that relationship leads to a commitment, the love and companionship we experience can be the most meaningful and important part of our lives. However, it's also understood that in marriage, as in other relationships, conflict is inevitable. For some couples, arguments and discord are infrequent, while for others they happen more often. This can cause stress and affect our personal happiness. If left untended, marriage problems can result in depression and anxiety. They can also adversely affect the health of other relationships in our lives.

Working Through Depression
Most of us accept that life will be filled with a mixture of emotions and this includes feeling sad from time to time. People who are suffering from depression, however, report feeling this way more than just briefly, but on an on-going basis lasting for weeks, months and even years. Depression can affect the way we eat, sleep, and work. It can be devastating to all areas of our life including our relationships with loved ones, our careers, and our happiness in general. Yet, despite the havoc depression can cause, many people do not reach out for help.

Coping with Stress
Think of situations when you have felt excited about an imminent event, 'pumped up' and alert. Did you realize this feeling was caused by stress? In small doses, stress can, in fact, be motivating and energizing when we face challenges. It can spur us on to complete a job on time, or to react quickly in a dangerous situation. This kind of stress is helpful. Without it, most of us would find it hard just to get up and out of the door every morning!
