The Conference Board of Canada1 reports the most significant impact an organization’s ability to achieve a profitable bottom line are the high costs associated with disability, and the leading cause of disability in Canada is due to depression.
The economic reality is that disability represents anywhere from 4% to 12% of payroll costs in Canada and upwards of $33 billion is lost to the Canadian economy annually due to mental health and addiction problems.2
Escalating drug benefits, wage replacement, short-term and long-term disability premiums and lost productivity create a compelling business case for a proactive approach to mental health disability management.
