Privacy Policy

Privacy Legislation

Homewood Employee Health (Homewood) is compliant with current privacy legislation. Homewood collects personal information for the purpose of providing Employee Assistance Program services to employees of our Corporate Clients and their family members.

Privacy Compliance Committee

Homewood has identified a Privacy Compliance Committee, comprised of: the Director of Operations, C.E.O., Manager of Clinical Services, and Manager of Integrated Health Services.

Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA)

Homewood abides by 10 Privacy Principles. These Principles are based on the federal government's privacy legislation, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA)

  1. Accountability: We are responsible for personal information under our control. We have designated individuals who are responsible for monitoring our ongoing compliance with the Privacy Principles.
  2. Identifying Purposes: The purposes, for which personal information is collected, will be identified.
  3. Consent: Client consent will be obtained for the collection, use and disclosure of personal information subject to certain exceptions.  Such exceptions are set out in the law as follows: - Records are subpoenaed by a court of law;
    - There is suspicion that a child is or may be in need of protection from current or potential physical abuse, emotional abuse, or neglect;
    - There is a need to intervene to prevent serious harm to an individual or others;
    - There is a need to report a health professional where there is reason to believe that they are not working in accordance with the standards of the Regulated Health Professions Act.
    N.B. Consent may be expressed in writing, verbally, electronically and in certain circumstances may be implied.
  4. Limiting Collection: The collection of personal information will be limited to that which is necessary for the purposes identified.
  5. Limiting Use, disclosure, and retention: Personal information will only be used for the purposes for which it was collected, other purposes consented to by the client, or as required by law.  It will only be kept for as long as is required by law. 
  6. Accuracy: All personal information collected, used or disclosed shall be as accurate, complete and up-to-date as is necessary for the purpose for which it is to be used.
  7. Safeguards: Personal information will be protected as appropriate to the sensitivity of the information. 
  8. Openness: Information regarding Homewood Privacy Policies and Practices for managing personal information is made available to every client. 
  9. Individual Access: Homewood will comply with all requests by individuals as to the existence, use and disclosure of information about them.  Clients shall have the opportunity to verify the accuracy, completeness of their information, and request that it be amended, if appropriate.
  10. Inquiries and Concerns: Clients are encouraged to contact Homewood with any inquiries or concerns about the privacy policies and practices.
